What is DPC?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is one of the fastest growing options for quality primary care across the United States. DPC is a model of delivering care for a membership fee. The model does not bill insurances, Medicare, Medicaid or any Federal or State insurance programs. The member (patient) does not send in a bill for reimbursement to their insurance plans. DPC physicians limit the number of patients in their care to 300 to 600 patients instead of the usual 3,000 to 4,000 patients of the traditional insurance-based model.
A Direct Primary Care membership is NOT insurance. Members should keep their insurance for events such as visits to the emergency room, unexpected surgeries, specialist visits, and imaging.
A monthly membership fee of $2.83/day covers most of the primary care needs provided by the practice. For less than the cost for 2 gallons of gas, you can have efficient access to your physician. By not billing insurances, the direct primary care office is able to provide flexible appointments, decrease wait time, longer appointments (30-45 minutes), and personalized care. A Direct Primary Care practice is not an emergency room or urgent care. However, your physician being available may help decrease trips to the ER and urgent care when appropriate.
